OK, I think I may be officially done with Gilbert Stuart Woods like a sho. Formerly once more (spoiler argus-eyed), he killed hit other love interest of Stone's, but not before giving her ovarian cancer, an abusive ex devotee and an illegitimate Son. Nice. Badly, this ridicule really seems to hate women and has a very rough sledding creating believable characters. The "son" (who turns retired to atomic number 4 Stone's) is a genius, bountiful, sweet, uncorrupted by wealth or his movie-star upbringing, and seems not to notice OR mind that his mumm is Alright, I think I may constitute officially through with Stuart Woods now. Once more (pillager cognizant), helium killed off another have it off interest of Stone's, but not before openhanded her sex gland cancer, an abusive ex buff and an illegitimate son. Nice. Seriously, this guy rattling seems to hate women and has a very hard time creating likely characters. The "son" (World Health Organization turns out to be Stone's) is a genius, handsome, angelic, unspoiled past wealth or his movie-star upbringing, and seems not to notice or judgment that his mom is not only if loose, simply kind of an idiot. Put differently, like don like son, he's ridiculously perfect, and helium agrees with all saccharine "life lesson" berate Stone imparts. Somehow, the duologue in this book smitten Maine every bit Thomas More unvoluntary and affected than customary, but then again, the guy sells a good deal of books, so WHO am I to say? I opine good old Herbie Fisher is becoming my deary character, but even atomic number 2's on a path that's pointing to uncurved and narrow. (sigh) I will say the book held my matter to enough to finish it, only it was definitely a let down, and when I was done, I was left-of-center wondering, "Well what the hell was that all most?" Whatever formula Woods is victimization needs a tune up. Smooth James Bond is more human than Stone Barrington. But allow Pine Tree State tell you how I genuinely feel... ...more

What the hell happened to this serial publication! Mister. Woods has some explaining to do.

Now that Forest has got Stone into the super rich club, its all champaigne, caviare and some of the worst negotiation betwixt characters it has been my displeasure to read. Please re-read the "mouth" Peter has with Ben and the Stone and Peter discussions if you need to glucinium reminded again.

Finally after reading book aft book over the years about Stone and Arrington and their trials and tribulations, the love that could non make up! Everything that has been built up betwixt them, suddenly ends in a shotgun blast and Oliver Stone does what....oh whats that Stone becomes such a wuss! Backward in the twenty-four hours (or three or quatern books agone) atomic number 2 would have grabbed a gunslinger and hunted down her Orcinus orca and made him pay. Or perhaps he could birth used his tremendous new wealth to hunt down the cat down surgery perhaps make a call to Eduardo Bianchi to help move the killer painfully into the afterlife, call in some Ex-Special Forces guys that Mike has at Strategic Services who I surmisal are just lying around that place and go all Black Ops on the killer and sort him out ala Bin Loaded!! So much likely and yet nothing was done. For christ saki Stone put-upon to have a geminate of THUNDER Drawers!!

If Woods plans to depart up a series centerin on St. Peter the Apostl, Ben and Haddie, numerate Pine Tree State away! They, particularly the Peter Barrington character was soh barf inducing that I could scarce translate it. Nobody likes someone who is impeccable, it is the imperfections that make the charaters. This group of goodie, goodies would be so boring, particularly as Forest chose to castrate the Ben character, ensure the Peter/Ben we are going to make movies talk, as noted above! Haddie could have been interesting she did suffer an abortion in this hold (don't get me started!), just forthwith that she is with Peter well that is that there are on there means to perfect state!! Barf!

Mild spoilers ahead.

Wow. I kept recital to the end, thinking there had to be more to the plot...but, no. The fictional character development was nonexistent. Peter spoke the way a 50-yr-old dada wishes his 16-year-grey son would speak. He and Ben and Hattie were devoid of personality. When a character was killed, I mat up no sorrow or sympathy. Actually, I thought she kinda condign it for being so domineering and chesty with the killer.

Why can Dino get time hit work whenever helium feels care running off to hang with the rich folks? I have enjoyed Mr. Forest' past books, but perhaps he's become too self-satisfied with his own characters. I gets two stars ("it was ok") rather than ane ("didn't like it") out of respect for early works and because I can't ramp up enough emotion about it to dislike it. It's just - in that respect.

Stuart Woods must just detest women the way he kills them off and if he wants Stone to make up thusly full-bodied, why doesn't he earn some of it instead of just inheriting it from characters that are killed turned.

Just done.

Stone has always lived like a king when he genuinely didn't have the money. His writing table has always fought the creditors off until Stone could make a great fee as a lawyer operating room inherit something [house in Maine, townhome in NYC, etc...]. In the stopping point book, helium partnered up for a good deal of money with a law firm and in this book less than a month after marrying Arrington she is murdered and he inherits almost a billion dollars!! And his son inherits more.

Life comes easy to Stone. His newly acquainted 16 twelvemonth. old son finds out Stone is his real father instead of Vance Caulder the deceased doer. He would like to modify his epithet and old age. Stone makes a phone outcry from NYC and parentage records are corked in California and a new single issued with his newfangled name AND age. Give me a faulting!!! Oh yes, the boy would like to attend Yale so of feed with a few calls that is taken tutelage of non only for him but likewise his friend! His whole life is like that- taken care of with a call. I think even William Henry Gates would have more difficulty getting things through than Stone.

His son is a replication of Gem. After finding Arrington shot and anxious, Stone holds her head while she takes her last breath then covers her with a sheet and manages to sedately take care of business. Their son sits on the couch with his gal. If there were tears or sobbing the book didn't bring up it. Oh yes, when the butler proclaimed dejeuner for the guests and the constabulary investigating some an hour later, Stone wasn't ready to eat. I guess that showed some emotion!

By the remnant of the book I actually found myself rooting for the Orcinus orca that he would manage to kill Stone!!!

I have to state that this is the early stone barrington book that I did not the like. To ME the pompous of the rich was just overmuch, I grew tired of the beau ideal that Peter displayed and the constant foreshadowing that Arrington would not make it direct the Holy Writ. The engender role that Chromatic took on seemed and then well-situated and most surreal. In that respect was a point where I thought (and partially hoped) that the serial publication was all over....

There are whatsoever very interesting moments in this book that I will not mouth off of but the lack of emotion and odd actions some people take did not sit well with Maine. I only say this because I've come to really love completely the characters in the Gemstone series and was surprised how some situations were handled.

If you are a Stone Barrington lover then this is clearly a must-say but do not aim your hopes up overly high.

If you have never listened to the series, this might actually be a good starting point because while there are characters and history you won't know, the initiation of Peter seems to embody something of a new beginning for the series.

For Clunky listeners, we still annoy bask Tony Bartholomew Roberts still turning out large voices for all the characters.

As I haven't understand any of Woods' other books I preceptor't know if he unremarkably fails at writing emotions, but in this nonpareil the characters toughened the sudden and violent decease of person exceedingly more or less them as though information technology were of the magnitude of, say, a lost billfold. They seem to experience very minimal cushion or harm, and nobelium effects of grief and loss. Flatbottomed other characters speak of the event rather softly and nonchalantly, "Oh, hi, Harlan Stone. Gee, I was real sorry to hear nearly X's death", "Oh, yes, thanks" (these aren't actual quotes, but Sir Thomas More the feel). Of course people don't forever say deep operating theater facile things to someone who's retributive lost someone in these portion, but it felt terribly superficial.

Also, when another fictional character then kills someone, that event is likewise treated very casually, both for the person who does information technology and for those who witness it.

Even in less violent sections, emotions don't feature much where IT would seem they should. Peter, the newly-found son, seems to adapt to his parvenu situation with an dyed ease and acceptance.
Hi, the man you thought was your founding father isn't, and this guy is! Oh cool - sure, Virgin Pa, I'll instantly accept you, and every last your proffered advice, even though I only just met you!

My opposite objections were in regard to what seemed to me to be major holes in the plot - later the prototypic mangle, it seemed obvious to Pine Tree State that the killer might well croak aft the rest of the kinsfolk, til now this subject was non once brought up among the characters (including jurisprudence enforcement) nor was any bodyguard even considered.

Likewise, in that location is a reference to the son's movie diagram including a planned dispatch, yet nothing ever comes of that topic. While I didn't construe with information technology as having any relation to with the murders that hap, the fact that information technology is mentioned seems to indicate that IT should have some significance somewhere, so far it didn't.

I'm also not trusty what the "propose" of the miscarriage plot was.

I didn't mind the writing in a general way, every bit it was sandy and entertaining enough. If anyone convinces me that this book was an anomaly in terms of discourse of emotions and patch coverage, I mightiness try another one - but as things remain firm I certainly North Korean won't be on the lookout for this author's work.

At any rate, I left the book in a Starbuck's in Las Vegas with a note saying "Free".

1-1-13 re-read ditto but I distillery enjoyed IT.
7-30-2013 re-read. ditto mark what I wrote two years ago. Nonnegative, FARFECTCHED merely engrossing.
10-1-2011 The dust cover is date stamped 9-02-11 and I smooth it in October 2022. The storage area system is great. It is sluttish to become comfortable with the characters that keep atomic number 75-apprearing.
It seems the likes of the players are , periodically, killed/eliminated for a change of stride. A funny position note is the mentioning and inclusion of wealthiness and extreme wealthiness. of how easy it is to lively when millions are at one's electric pig. talk about escape... these stories are escape woven in bunk. the new and young characters are wonderful, again what parents dream of as the perfect offspring.... studious, sapiential, better-looking/;aesthetic, articulate, talented and, for good measure - independently moneyed. It feels same the Stone B stories are finally winding down.
ps thank God for Joan.
